Maimouna Guerresi, whose art is featured in this post, is an Italian multimedia artist whose work focuses on Sufism & inner mystical dimensions.
This is how the artist describes her transporting work:
They're like ancient icons: whilst their bodies are as empty as dark and mysterious caves, they create new, unknown spaces that are part of an infinite universe.
Meditating on her art, I thought: What if, instead of writing people off as less-than —who are different from us & dressed in foreign religious attire — we were to consider that these photographs might depict the sense of spaciousness & liberation they actually feel on the inside?
