Jatropha gossypiifolia is commonly known as bellyache bush, black physicnut or cotton-leaf physicnut which is a species of flowering plant in the spurge family of Euphorbiaceae.
The species native is traced to Mexico, Philippines, South America, Gujarat State & the Caribbean islands.
It’s used traditionally for treating of dysentery & diarrhea. It has been known for its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli & Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The latex of Jatropha contains an effective alkaloid known as ‘Jatrophine’ which is believed to have healing anti-cancer properties.
