It is a branch temple of Sinheungsa, the headquarters of the 3rd parish of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. It was founded in 769 (the 5th year of King Hyegong) by Jinpyo and named it Geumgangsan Hwaeomsa Temple.

According to the historical record, Jinpyo, who came to Mt. Geumgang at that time, built Balyeonsa Temple to the east of Mt. Geumgang, Jangansa Temple to the west, and Jangansa Temple to the south. It is said that it was because he was strong and saved many sentient beings.
