Sometimes it's good to choose a place for your next trip in advance. Owing to Corona, and some restriction, I was not to many places lately but now I have zeroed on one place to make a trip sooner. The place is Whistling Village. The village in which people compose a tune for calling a person in the place of names.
Sounds Interesting...?? I am sure you not even heard of this place in our incredible India.
I am damn sure you all would be curious to know more about the Whistling Village. Even I was not aware of such place but yesterday, the village get nomination for the Best Tourism Villages' award of the World Tourism Organisation.
Kongthong, a picturesque village in Meghalaya, is known as the Whistling Village. The reason being, the people of this village use to communicate with each other by songs or by tune. In this village whenever a baby is born, whatever tune comes out from the heart of the mother becomes the name of the baby.
Kongthong is a small village is nestled in East Khasi Hills, in the district of Meghalaya 60kms south from Shillong. The village is around 2 hours drive via road from Shillong.
Kongthong is infact a remote village which is kind one of many hidden gems in Meghalaya with secluded roads cutting through the valley flanked by table-top mountains, waterfalls and pine trees. Apart from the lush green natural set up which is treat to your eye, what attracts more is the culture. When you visit the village, you'll hear less talking and more melodies.
This is an age old tradition of the village. There used to be a belief that
in primitive times that if people going into the forest call each other by names, an apocalyptic character would know them and follow them to their homes, harming their families.
As The nomination news excites me to look out more for this place, I found that, One of the most ideal places to stay in the Whistling Village is the Kongthong Traveller's Nest, which has a stunning bamboo cottage.
A stay in the Whistling Village for a couple of days will be a rejuvenating experience for everyone soul. Thr set up is complete in middle of nature with pristine pastoral landscapes all around, calming resonances and comforting weather are thr gifts of this place.
