The unexpected visit of a little animal in the night was scary for my daughter... I had to explain to her that it was harmless and that it is an amphibian, to which came questions about what it does, what it eats and if it bites.
It is a giant toad, also called a marine or cane toad.
When I investigated I understood the reason why the cat that was close by when I saw it did not even determine it, I did not pay the slightest attention to it. The toad, when ingested, is toxic, since it has poison glands, which is why certain predators do not pay much attention to it.
Its scientific name is Rhinella marina of the family Bufonidae. They are part of the 100 most harmful invasive exotic species in the world.

La inesperada visita de un animalito en la noche fue de susto para mi hija... Toco explicarle que era inofensivo y que es un anfibio, a lo que llegaron preguntas de que hace, que come y si muerde.
Se trata de un sapo gigante, llamado también sapo marino o de caña.
Al indagar comprendí la razón del porque el gato que estaba cerca al verlo ni lo determinó, no le presto la más mínima atención. El sapo al ser ingerido es tóxico, puesto que tienen glándulas venenosas, por lo cual ciertos depredadores no le prestan mayor atención.
Su nombre científico es Rhinella marina de la familia Bufonidae. Forman parte de las 100 especies exóticas invasoras más dañinas del mundo.
