Por mi parte, me toca relatarles sobre mi genero favorito de películas y el por que. Aquí la verdadera pregunta es ¿a quien no le gusta un buen susto con una excelente película de terror?

For my part, it's my turn to tell you about my favorite genre of movies and why. Here the real question is who doesn't like a good scare with an excellent horror movie?
Bastantes recuerdos divertidos me trae pensar en las películas de terror y es que cuando estaba mas pequeña no podía ver este tipo de películas sin gritar o atravesar mi mano en mi cara. Cuando nos poníamos en familia a verlas mi tía por hacerme maldad se sentaba a mi lado y pegaba un gritito agudo cuando salia algún fantasma o un monstruo haciéndome gritar a mi también (era horrible). Con el paso del tiempo le fui perdiendo el miedo y tomándole amor, no soy una persona de ver películas tan seguido, solo cuando una en especifico me llama la atención y sin duda las que han sido así me han encantado, por eso les nombrare 3 de esas que han hecho que me quede pegada a la pantalla.
I have a lot of fun memories thinking about horror movies and when I was a little girl I couldn't watch this kind of movies without screaming or putting my hand through my face. When we would watch them as a family, my aunt would sit next to me and would scream when a ghost or a monster came out, making me scream too (it was horrible). As time went by I lost my fear of them and started to love them, I am not a person who watches movies that often, only when a specific one catches my attention and without a doubt the ones that have been like that have enchanted me, that's why I will name 3 of those that have made me stay glued to the screen.

Robert Egger made short films around the same theme. One of them is a black and white animation of Hansel & Gretel and the other is The Tell-Tale Heart from 2008. It is currently not possible to find them online. The director has pointed out that in The Witch there was NO paranormal stuff on set or anything like that, but that in The Tell-Tale Heart they filmed in a haunted house, that when he was left alone decorating the set, he heard a child's laughter all the time.
The Satanic Temple of Detroit obtained a copy provided to them by the A21 studio and they approved the veracity of the tape. Una vez que termina la cinta sabes que no viste una película de horror del montón, incluso me atrevería a decir que no es una cinta de horror, sino un drama familiar de época con tintes sobrenaturales y en él se hace una exploración de distintos temas que afectan a la sociedad actual, entre ellos la opresión de la feminidad, misoginia y el fanatismo religioso, todo esto dentro del contexto de 1630 en Nueva Inglaterra. La cinta retoma los arquetipos básicos del folclore de las brujas durante ese periodo, no por nada se le agrega el subtitulo de "una leyenda folclórica de Nueva Inglaterra", sin embargo, los presenta de una manera distinta, tomándose su tiempo para ir creando una atmósfera idílica para sus intenciones.
Once the film ends, you know you haven't seen a run-of-the-mill horror film, I would even go so far as to say that it is not a horror film, but a period family drama with supernatural overtones, exploring various themes that affect today's society, among them the oppression of femininity, misogyny and religious fanaticism, all within the context of 1630's New England. The film takes up the basic archetypes of the folklore of witches during that period, not for nothing is the subtitle "a New England folk legend" added to it, however, it presents them in a different way, taking its time to create an idyllic atmosphere for its intentions.
Hay que decirlo, la película no es para todo tipo de público, es una película, por momentos, contemplativa y cinemática a morir, con una fotografía muy cuidada. Es una narrativa que se toma su tiempo no para asustarte en el momento, sino para dejarte pensando durante días y que un sentimiento de que algo está mal se quede contigo, y no necesariamente se refiere a que una bruja te acose durante la noche, si no por las ideas que deja rumiando en el fondo de tu mente. Particularmente por el final de la cinta. Ésta es mi interpretación de lo que vi.
It has to be said, the film is not for every type of audience, it is a film, at times, contemplative and cinematic to the death, with some neat cinematography. It's a narrative that takes its time not to scare you in the moment, but to leave you thinking for days and a feeling that something is wrong stays with you, and not necessarily referring to a witch stalking you through the night, but by the ideas it leaves ruminating in the back of your mind. Particularly by the end of the tape, this is my interpretation of what I saw.
Mi amor por las películas de terror se queda en los datos que se pueden sacar de ella, detrás de toda la filmación y la historia siempre queda alguna verdad oculta que a mi instinto curioso le encanta descubrir.
