I don’t believe she pressed charges, but the police know Cherries bio dad and ruled him out as a suspect and don’t believe Janice’s rape accusation. Eventually, police latched onto a lead: a van multiple people claimed to see roaming around the time of Cherries disappearance. Police received a tip allegedly from someone who knew Mahan well and pointed to a specific suspect. I do not believe the bio dad is involved and it’s likely he doesn’t even care enough. She got off the bus 150 yards from her house, with three friends who got a lift home from one of their mothers, Debbie. Perhaps the woman they questioned wasn’t the same as the girl who was spotted, maybe Cherrie was actually in Michigan at some point after she went missing. I believe she was searching for her bio dad and may be questioning her mom on it, and the clue is in that.
