Bamboo for wall-mirror Decoration

Hello! dear friends in Hive! It is a long weekend once again, due to the Declaration of our President February 24, Friday as non-working holiday. yahoo! Enjoying such opportunity makes me do and finished my household chores, and plan ahead my school activities for Monday. I hope everybody is in good shape. In today's blog, I will be highlighting one of the projects I created using bamboo materials.

Do you know what is a Bamboo?
The word BAMBOO was formed by combining the words “mamboo”, which originated in the ancient Dravidian, spoken mostly by Malayans, and the word “bamboes” was introduced.

Bamboo has several applications and is frequently farmed for a variety of reasons. It is a strong and flexible building material that has been used for decades. They are used for construction purposes. Thay can make furniture, cabinets, bridges, and tables with a natural and amazing look. In our place bamboo shoots are a popular ingredient in our dishes. They can be eaten raw or cooked and have a crunchy texture and a slightly sweet, nutty flavor.

My grandfather, when he was still alive, told us that bamboo can also be used as medicine. According to him, it can cure wounds and inflammation. Hahaha, I just don't know if it's true. I have not tried it myself.

Well, too much for the introduction of this bamboo thing(lol).

The project that I am going to show you is a wall-mirror decorated with bamboo.

The hardest and the challenging part of making this project, was the cutting of bamboo using the saw. It needs the help of a man's strong and durable arms to produce this cut out bamboo rings. I ask the help of my husband in cutting this bamboo but the rest of the work is solely and done by yours truly (lol).

bamboo pole

Procedure:

1.Prepare all the materials needed. In choosing the bamboo to use, you need to use a mature-bamboo poles with a diameter of 4 1/2 inches.
2.Clean the bamboo skin and eliminate the dirt by scraping it with knife or any sharp object.

3.Mark the bamboo with an estimated gap/space of 1 inch.

7.Prepare a plywood and form a circle with a diameter of 18 inches.

8.Locate the center of the plywood and carefully place the mirror at the center. Use epoxy in attaching the mirror.

9.Before arranging the bamboo around the circle, apply the plywood and bamboo with varnish. It is all right not to fully paint the bamboo rings since you can paint it after putting adhesives.

10.Arrange the bamboo in circles with equal distance. Take note, on this part adhesives are not yet applied. This gives us chance to move and arrange the rings if possible.

11.Once the rings are properly arranged, you can securely fix it by slowly removing the bamboo rings from the circle then apply the adhesives into it.

12.Then, apply finishing touches by polishing it with mahogany-colored plastic varnish in the sections that have not been painted. Let it dry, then apply the natural-colored plastic varnish as topcoat.

13.Finally, put a whole into the side of the wood, to where the holder should be attached. So, you can hang it anywhere you like. I make use of some cloth remnants, which can be hidden when they are hung.

And I come up with this output!
