What Is GHAWG?
#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

| Even though I believed that Rhonda would make a wonderful mother, I didn't have the luxury of thinking about parenthood myself. If it doesn't happen, I have my mission. Whether I become a father or not, The Lord will decide. |

| 🏍️ By the time GHAWG begins, David Guardia had been taking care of his ailing father for over 10 years. Not that he was doing everything for his father (who was still lucid even if he was physically limited), but he needed to be available and nearby at all times in case anything drastic happened. Whether he was a workaholic or not, it's not easy having one's own personal relationship under those circumstances. So his social activities and possible romantic pursuits were put on hold and deferred until such time as he could engage in them again. 🏍️ During this stage of his life, David wasn't sure if he was doing all he could for his ailing father, so it's no surprise that he was doubting his abilities as a potential father of children of his own. At this point of his life, getting married and having a family was a "nice to have" dream rather than a goal to be achieved. Whatever concerns he had about being a parent some day or not were removed once he began his mission as a prophet. |

| We took our time once we reached L. A. There was just too much to see even from the PCH. I've heard about Venice Beach, and that's where we ended up for a bit. It wasn't what I had imagined, especially with all the homeless. |

| 🏍️ With the City of Los Angeles having 87 counties (compared to 5 boroughs of New York City), getting through L. A. wasn't going to be easy even with nothing else happening. 🏍️Venice Beach had been famous for being a place frequented by bodybuilders, hard bodies, fitness mavens, and beautiful people. Sadly, since at least 2019, it had become yet another area afflicted with homelessness and substance abuse in public. While perhaps not to the degree it was in 2023, Venice Beach was still a far cry from what it used to be by the time Our Heroes reach it. |

| Although there were no delinquents near us, a group of sixty homeless people surrounded us. It looked as if they expected us to say something. I took the opportunity to offer words of hope. What followed next was astounding. |

| 🏍️ Just as in Seattle, Washington, US, David Guardia had attracted members of the forgotten classes. These people had lost hope in civil government and local politics. While there may have been people there who were all-in on the free stuff and cheap drugs and kindred spirits (or demons), they weren't in the group to whom David addressed with words of hope. 🏍️ What were David's words of hope to this audience at Venice Beach? I don't know. That is to say, they remain-- to this day-- to be determined. Most likely, the would have been a pale imitation of the Sermon on the Mount mixed with biting criticsm at the political leaders and governments which had failed them time and again. I'm saving this speech or monologue for when I port GHAWG to long form content. |

| 🏍️ For the purposes of zapfic, I was unable to include Lionel Odunsi's reaction to this event. Very likely, he would have heard David Guardia speaking in one of the non-English languages spoken in his native Nigeria. 🏍️ For this zapfic entry, I wanted to include as many characetrs as I could. In a sly way, I reveal more about the characters Harry Hoqualogue, the Brothers Marchenko (descendants of ethnic Russians from Ukraine), and Lindsay Etxeberria. Rhonda Bella very likely heard a form of regional Italian (I decided recently that her ancestors were Sicilian), but I needed to present a visual reaction to what was happening.. 🏍️ The Doge language existed before there was Dogecoin or even Bitcoin. When he got into cryptocurrency, it made sense for Hank Marchenko to get into the Doge language.. 🏍️ This zapfic entry is the reason I decided to have Lindsay be someone familiar with Basque. Spanish is such a widely-spoken language that even non-speakers know Spanish when they hear it. But Basque? That requires a particular set of skills, so to speak, and Lindsay had them. An added bonus is the recency bias Lindsay would have by the time Our Heroes reach Riverside, California, US. |

| I heard myself speaking in English with a bit of Spanish given our location. I had no idea that everyone else had heard me speak in languages that weren't English. Only The Lord, via the Holy Spirit, could make that happen. |

| 🏍️ This zapfic entry puts the exclamation point on the speech David Guardia gave to the audience of homeless people at Venice Beach. Had David been a witness rather than a participant, he would have heard portions of Spanish, Italian, and Catalan (the native language spoken in Spain's Catalonia province, home of the FC Barcelona futbol club). While doing research into the family name "Guardia," I discovered that many people bearing this name hailed from Italy, Spain in general, and Catalonia province in particular. |

| Los Angeles & Riverside are roughly 90 miles north of San Diego. Following Harry's lead, we switched from PCH to CA22 & I405 near California State Univerity Long Beach before going north again. From CA-91, we reached Riverside. |

Story Arc So Far
Our Heroes reach Los Angeles, so their days as a combined group are coming to a close. Just before reaching L. A., David Guardia and Rhonda Bella share their concerns for becoming parents some day if at all.
While riding through Venice Beach, once a hot spot for bodybuilding and physical fitness but now overrun with homeless and other down-and-out people, they were approached by about sixty homeless people who sought words of encoragement and hope.
Although David Guardia didn't say anything extraordinary, how he said it was. People familiar with other languages were understanding David in their own respective languages. Even free-spirits (no-spirits?) like Lindsay Etxeberria and Harry Hoqualogue were shocked by what they had witnessed, which was the power of The Lord in the form of the Holy Spirit working through David.
Next stop: Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California, US, where Lindsay Etxeberria was going to start the next phase of her up-to-then turbulent life.

The western terminus of Old Route 66 is in Santa Monica, California, US, so they need to ride north from San Diego in order to begin the ride east.
