What Is GHAWG?
#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

| After speaking more with Hank & Frank, Lindsay began to truly reconsider the years of her life since her high school graduation. She realized there was more than one path to engaging in "direct action" as per her indoctrination. |

| 🏍️ At least in the United States, colleges and universities had been oriented toward leftist ideologies for decades, going as far back as World War I. As recently as the 1990s, they were still tolerant of opposing viewpoints and let people speak freely on them. Fast forward to the 2010s-- by which time the students of the 1990s had become the faculty and administrators of the 2010s-- and that earlier tolerance had disappeared, only to be replaced by ideological purity tests. This was the environment in which Lindsay Etxeberria found herself, and in her case the indoctrination was strong enough to send her into the ranks of professional leftist activism, where she could practice "direct action" on a regular basis. It took an act of God to open her eyes to the reality of her situation, and that act of God literally saved her life. |

| At Bowling Ball Beach, west of Galloway, Lindsay saw me with an elderly homeless man who resembled James Brown. She saw me hugging this man. "What did you tell him?" she asked. I said, "Semper Fi. He was about my father's age." |

| 🏍️ The elderly homeless man who resembled James Brown turned out to be a Marine Corps veteran, and this allowed a connection to form between him and David Guardia. During the early days of #GHAWG we learn that David's father had been Marine attached to one of its Force Recon units during the 1960s. {Semper fidelis} is the Latin motto for the United States Marine Corps, but Marines themselves shorten it to "Semper Fi" when they quote it to each other and to everyone else within earshot. |

| We set up camp at Bodega Bay. Next day we nedeed those dizzyness pills Harry mentioned earlier. Although PCH lead us further inland, we ended up between Marin City & Sausalito, north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. |

Although they were still in Northern California, they rode far enough south to reach San Francisco. 🏍️ They needed a place to call it a night before reaching the San Francisco area. While scanning the digital maps of the surrounding area I came upon Bodega Bay. I liked the name of the place, so I chose it for their overnight layover. |

| CA1/PCH merged with US101 when we reached the Golden Gate Bridge. Off the bridge into The Presidio, we stayed on the PCH and returned to the coast. We ended up at Davenport Beach. The night was warmer than usual, which was good. |

This is why warm weather at Davenport Beach was notable. 🏍️ The Presidio is a section of northern San Francisco in which a US Army base was located. Malpaso Productions is the production company he founded n 1967. 🏍️ Pebble Beach is known as home of the best public golf courses in the United States. It was also the site of 5 US Open Championships. |

| 🏍️ While 6-sided dice can be found in stores ranging from nationwie chains to the corner bodega, the D20 is limited to specialty stores which sell tabletop board games. 🏍️ The zapfic entry itself is self-explanatory. It's based on a game I made up in the 2010s to help pass the time. All that was needed was one D20, a paper, and a pen/pencil for scorekeeping. Variations of the game can be made, but the idea is that the negative values help keep the game unpredictable. While no one wants to finish with a score of (for example) 8, having a score of 8 is better than finishing at (for example) -245. |

| Lindsay joined Sanjay & Lionel for a D20 game. Just when Sanjay was going to run away with the lead, he had to deduct 20 points. Lionel was more consistent with his rolls. Lindsay ended up winning the D20 game with 12 points. |

| 🏍️ This zapfic entry is just a continuation of the previous entry. It provided an example of how the D20 game was played. The two zapfic entries also showed how these particular college students-- known in GHAWG as "The Kids"-- pass their free time while on the road. Since Lindsay Etxeberria herself is of age for acquiring a doctorate degree, I include her as one of "The Kids" in future zapfic entries. 🏍️ For reference, David Guardia would be the old man in his 50s; Rhonda Bella is in her 40s; the Brothers Marchenko are between 35 and 45; and Sanjay Rampersad and Lionel Odunsi are about 21, about to start their final year of undergraduate study at UNC Chapel Hill. So Lindsay would be between 25 and 35. |

Story Arc So Far
Our Heroes are on the move through Northern California as they ride south along the famed Pacific Coast Highway. Lindsay Etxeberria, through vignettes involving the other rides, sees how people act when they think no one was watching. She also finds herself spending more time with The Kids. Enough distance has been covered for them to be south of San Francisco.
Next Week
Zapfic Entries 252-258
Lindsay Etxeberria learns more about her riding companions, foreign exchange students Sanjay Rampersad and Lionel Odunsi. Their time with her seems to be having a positive impact on her. Meanwhile, David Guardia and Harry Hoqualogue, with their ride coming to an end, find themselves discussing the near future. Already old men in relation to those around them, they both find themselves dealing with questions of mortality and legacy.

In the main story, David Guardia and Rhonda Bella spend their honeymoon engaged in #NSFW activities. In the secondary story, The Kids and the Brothers Marchenko plan their trip back east primarily along the path defined by Old Route 66 before they play tourist in San Diego.
