What Is GHAWG?
#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

"Next stop," said Harry, "Devils Tower in northeast Wyoming." We retraced our path to Sturgis, then we took I-90 into Wyoming past Sundance. We switched to US Route 14 and took it to Wyoming Route 24, which we took to Route 117.
🏍️ Although I knew about STURGIS, Mount Rushmore, and Devils Tower, I had no idea they were were in relatively close proximity to each other:
- STURGIS is roughly 79 miles (127 kilometers) east of Devils Tower, Wyoming;
- Devils Tower, Wyoming is roughly 130 miles (209 km) west of Mount Rushmore, South Dakota;
- Mount Rushmore is roughly 52 miles (84 km) south of STURGIS.
🏍️ Devils Tower is famous in popular culture for the 1977 movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, directed by Steven Spielberg. Random people from around the world are drawn to Devils Tower, where they encounter a large space craft and its extraterrestrial passengers.

Between Devils Tower in the northeast & Yellowstone National Park in the northwest was over 290 miles of riding. With the circleback we did back at Mount Rushmore, we needed to call it a day. We took I-90 to Buffalo for shuteye.
🏍️ That trip from STURGIS to Mount Rushmore and Devils Tower was the whole day right there. It's a lot of distance to cover by car, and at the time I published this zapfic entry I didn't appreciate the distance by motorcycle. I'm not saying that a trip in this region of that distance can't be done by motorcycle, although I would not recommend using an EV to make this trip.

As we rode on US-16 out of Buffalo we passed by Hazelton Peak & Hazelton Pyramid. At Ten Sleep we switched from US-16 to WY-31. From there we had a few more road changes until we reached Emblem. Tomorrow we reach Yellowstone.
🏍️ This entry was going to be made no matter what; it's part of the path everyone needed to take. However, it helped that along the way there were places with interesting names.

With the many peaks and named mountains between us and Yellowstone National Park, we had to be extra careful of the road changes required of us. When US-14 became US-20, we were riding along the north shore of Yellowstone Lake.
🏍️ This stretch of land features both sights and road changes. Combined with the long distance between refueling stations, it would be easy to get in trouble as a car driver or motorcycle rider.

Unlike my ride through Illinois, where Manny Rey and I were riding for dear life just to get through the state, I was able to enjoy the natural scenery of Wyoming. Old Faithful was nearby; from there we were close to Montana.
🏍️ This was a contrast between the long ride David Guardia made through the state of Illinois with the ride he was making through Wyoming. Thanks to the proximity of attractions such as Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, and the Old Faithful geyser, David Guardia was able to appreciate and enjoy his ride and what he was seeing. Back in Illinois, he would have gladly accepted speeding tickets just to get through the state during its time of civil unrest.

Yellowstone is so vast it spills into Montana & Idaho. West Yellowstone's in Montana, yet it's also a short distance from both Wyoming & Idaho. The closest big city for us would be Bozeman. Harry told me about the brewery there.
🏍️ Yellowstone is famous for a number of reasons: the national park, the attractions there, the Yogi Bear cartoon, and the streaming series on the Paramount Network starring Kevin Costner. One other reason Yellowstone is famous: it's the caldera for a supervolcano. This explains the geothermic activity there. It's also overdue for an eruption.

We found a restaurant-brewery big enough for our combined group. Harry's guys sat by him; everyone else sat by Rhonda & me. She & I sat by Harry. Once we got to eating & drinking things got a bit loud with laughter and stories.
🏍️ While Bozeman, Montana is not a major city such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, or Miami, it's large enough to have an international airport. More imprantly for David Guardia and company, it's a city which has buildings and streets, small-town style.

Story Arc So Far
The trip out west after leaving STURGIS began with sight-seeing in an area rich in tourist attractions, including Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, and both Devils Tower and Yellowstone in Wyoming. With both David Guardia and his crew plus The Mongols riding together toward the Pacific Ocean and ultimately San Diego, California, they end up in Bozeman, Montana for a few days of rest.
Next Week
The sight-seeing tour continues in Zapfic Entries 148-154 as everyone gets to spend a few days in Bozeman, Montana. These entries focus on David Guardia, Rhonda Bella, and the rest of the crew with them. Included fan service includes mentions of $HBD and $ETH.
