My hometown, HUE city - The Ancient City of Vietnam !

Hi Everyone !

Thank you for taking time to read another blog of mine.
In this blog I am going to be speaking about the I come from it is such a special place in my heart in fact I have returned here currently as I write this post, please let me tell you with pride about my hometown.

Hue is an important city in Vietnam, the place is known as an ancient capital city with a lot of history involved. UNESCO recognized Hue palace as a World Heritage Site.
If you are a history buff or simply love discovering exotic culture Hue can provide as it is the former Royal Capital and has a lot to offer.
The city represents the outstanding demonstration of power of what was once the Vietnamese empire (you will see in the photos what I am talking about) there are monuments, tombs and pagodas which intrigue tourists from all over the world all year round!

A CITY WITH THE OLD ARCHITECTURE AND AN ANCIENT HISTIORY !

The Imperial City !

This place was my first go too when explaining to anyone what Hue represents. Not only do you get the simplistic life that Vietnam brings but here we see what true power was and it shows within the images I have added. I personally think the imperial palace is a beautiful place even the architecture is on point!

Now for a bit of history on this place. The Imperial City is part of the Imperial Citadel and goes all the way back to the Nguyen Dynasty. This used to consist a combination of temples, courts, pavilions and walls/gates. But unfortunately, most of the structures were destroyed during the Vietnam/American war, however it is still 100% good to come and see as some of the structures are being restored and there is even a few places still left in really good condition. Coming to the Imperial City you can book a tour guide to take you through the place and tell you all about the Nguyen emperor which is very interesting and important to our culture and history in Vietnams 4000 years.

Hue boasts an ancient history. The picturesque scenery and rugged terrain gave Hue a special position in the history of Vietnam.

HUE VIBE

Have you ever been running/ walking around your city or town and quietly just taking in the scenes around you? For example, when I do this, I notice the cyclists working really hard to drive passengers around the streets, the tourists slowly drinking tea/coffee along the roadside. Those things to me among others make up something very HUE in vibe.

That I mean by this statement is with other cities like Ho Chi Ming or Hanoi you can straight away get overwhelmed with a sense of this is busy 24/7 and that is great that’s their vibe. Hue on the other hand is slower paced more involved you have time to think to smell to react to what is around you. There is the difference between farm and city here you can see it’s a place all people come to be together no matter who you are. I love this city with all my heart.

One of the landmarks of Hue’s ancient Imperial Complex is the Hue flag monument.
Located in front of the South Gate (Meridian Gate)
it is a huge structure of three flat-top pyramids

Thien Mu Pagoda

Situated on Ha Khe hill, on the left bank of the Huong River, about 5km toward the west of Hue city.
Thien Mu Pagoda is a famous spiritual destination the tourists don’t want to miss in your list of things to do in Hue along with the beautiful and ancient architecture,
the mystical spiritual stories about the temple attracted the curiosity of people coming here.

Built in the 14th century, the pagoda is connected to a legend of a fairy lady . According to the legend, the people around this area used to see a vision of an old lady appearing on the hill where the pagoda now sits. On seeing people, she always said that someday a great leader would build a pagoda at this site to bring peace to the country. One day, when Lord Nguyen Hoang passed by this area, upon hearing the story, he ordered the construction of the pagoda named Chua Thien Mu - Heavenly Lady Pagoda.

The pagoda was built in 1601, and then Lord Nguyen Phuc Tan had it renovated in 1665.

Quoc Hoc Hue - Century Old High School

Being the first and also the oldest high school in Vietnam, originally Quoc Hoc (National high school) was the school for children from royal and noble families.
On the site that used to be former squadron headquarter - a royal navy headquarters, French colonialists built this school to train those who would serve the feudal colonial government.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO !

Best time to visit

Hue’s climate is hot and humid all year round. But in case you can arrange your trip between February and April, you’ll most likely encounter cooler and drier climate. In April and June every leap year, there will be Hue Festivals along with many traditional cultural activities. If you come between August and December, take note that it is the rainy season in Hue. Therefore, you may need to bring a raincoat or umbrella with you in case it rains.

How to get around HUE :

Getting around Hue City From your hotel in Hue, there are many options that you can choose to get to Hue Citadel. You can catch cyclos, bicycles, motorcycles, taxis or even dragon boats. But I suggest you should catch Cylos to go around Hue City. ( it cost about : 150,000 VND ~ 12$ )
