Hello my dear needleworkers! 🤗 The day long awaited by everyone in this community has arrived. You cannot imagine how nervous and anxious I have been to do this post, since we were invited to participate in the contest, and to think that everything came about by chance thanks to some colleagues who began to publish Barbie clothes.
I couldn't wait to sit in front of the computer to upload the photos of my participation, but above all to marvel at the publications of my fellow needleworkers. Well, I have to tell you that my computer was without wanting to work during the morning and I must confess that I panicked just thinking that I could not participate 😱😱😱. I was able to see some entries from my cell phone, but I still have not mastered the tools to post from the phone. But thank God everything was solved in time and here I am happy to show you my Barbie dress.
At the risk that the post got a bit long, I would like to tell you that I finally decided to buy my own doll instead of using my daughter's doll. This contest removed many memories from the past, starting from when I was a child and my frustration at not having a Barbie, I remember that my younger sisters were given Barbies at Christmas but I was already older and they gave me other things, my cousins also had Barbies And since my aunt was a seamstress, she taught us to sew doll clothes with scraps of fabric, but I always played with borrowed dolls😥. Until I decided to raise the money they gave me for school and buy my own Barbie, although the poor thing later fell into the hands of my naughty sisters and I no longer heard from her. Well this time I also wanted to have my own doll to give it a name to my liking and to be the official model of @kattycrochet 🤭. I found this doll at a used toy store and I really liked it since I saw it. So for me it is a pleasure to introduce you to my new model: Kalany
Another memory that came to my mind was all the times my mother and I teamed up to design and sew my daughter's outfits for her school activities, reigns, dances, impersonations etc. This time I teamed up with my daughter who collaborated a lot in this project since my mother is in Venezuela.
In this post I will share the entire process that was carried out in the realization of the dress without pretending to make a tutorial, since everything was given on the fly and through trial and error.
For this project I had to go shopping, the first thing I bought was the doll, then I bought a thin mercerized cotton thread and a very thin crochet needle.
Then I drew two dresses and chose one of them
The dress began on the bodice, which I was molding to the body of the doll as it was weaving.
Then I continued with the fitted part of the skirt and the one shoulder shot.
Then I started to knit the ruffles for the skirt.
Then I made the stitch for the edge of the skirt.
For the upper part of the bodice I knitted a crab stitch to give it more enhancement.
Then I made a tulle wrapper to enhance the skirt.
Finally I decorated with some sequins to add a touch of glamor to the dress.
And Kalany is ready for the Red Carpet of such a great event as the Needlework your Barbie Awards in its first edition 🤭.
Thanks to the @needlewokmonday community for organizing this contest, congratulations and successes to all my needleworker friends. It was a pleasure to participate and share my project, I had so much fun so much that I hope to continue making clothes for Kalany.
