Cuartel Ruins - Architectural Travel

Last Sunday my wife and I decided to have long ride bounding southern part of Cebu and agreed the first stop at Oslob. Oslob was prominent for its tourist attraction of whale shark watching, its the first thing that comes in everybody's mind when you heard of the towns name. Cebu by the way is a province of the Philippines which can be found in Visayas Region.

Aside from whale shark attraction, Oslob town has many to offer in regards of historical ruins and one of them is Cuartel. Cuartel was derived from the Spanish word "Barracks". Cuartel was built to serve as barracks and first line of defense of Spanish forces to deal from random attacks of Moro invaders.

In some point there was a historical mark attached in the wall of Cuartel, revealing that,

This unique structure was built through the effort of El Gran Maestro Don Marcus Sabandal. To serve as barracks for Spanish armies but was not completed during the arrival of Americans in 1899.

It is believed that Cuartel was made from coral stones from the remains of the collapse floor of Nuestra Señora de la Immaculada Concepcion a Church of the town which is few distance from Cuartel.

Cuartel indicates that Cebu island were once colonized by Spanish people and somehow extent their influence by leaving the unfinished structure and even in some dialects that we're using came from Spanish words.
