I have done my part today to lose a few ... well grams maybe.
After a long hiatus I started my Actifit App on the phone, as I was embarking on a 2 hour hike.
I say hike, although I live in the almost flat Hannover in Lower Saxony.
Actifit counted almost 12k steps which is congruent with the Samsung Health App's kilometer tracker.
What kind of hike can you do in a place called "Lower Saxony" you might ask :o).
We have a few gentle hills with the Kronsberg as the cities highest point at 118 meters above sea level.
wie sieht es aus mit euren Fitness Zielen?
Ich habe heute einiges dafür getan, meinen selbstgesteckten Zielen einen kleinen Schritt näher zu kommen.
Actifit hat fast 12.000 Schritte gezählt, was mit dem Kilometerzähler der Samsung Health App übereinstimmt.
Nach einer langen Pause habe ich mal wieder meine Actifit-App auf dem Handy gestartet, bevor ich zu einer 2-stündigen Bergwanderung aufgebrochen bin. Ich sage Bergwanderung, dabei lebe ich im fast flachen Hannover in Niedersachsen.
Was für eine Wanderung kann man in einem Ort namens "Niedersachsen" machen, magst du dich fragen :o).
Wir haben ein paar sanfte Hügel, wobei der Kronsberg mit 118 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel der höchste Punkt der Stadt ist.
I have quite a few routes in and around Hannover which I quite like because despite its metropolitan status (approximately 550,000 inhabitants with incorporated areas), Hannover feels like a village. The most beautiful of these routes around the "Green Mile" is the one leading to the "mighty" Kronsberg. The small, visible elevation that you have to conquer at the end of a small tour with a gentle incline allows the hiker to catch a special view for flatlanders like us in Northern Germany.
Ich habe einige Lieblingsstrecken in und um Hannover herum, denn Hannover ist trotz des Großstadtstatus' (ungefähr 550.000 Einwohner mit Eingemeindungen) ein Dorf. So fühlt es sich jedenfalls an.
Die schönste dieser Strecken rund um die "Grüne Meile" ist diejenige hin zum Kronsberg. Die kleine, sichtbare Erhebung, die man am Ende einer kleinen Tour mit sanfter Steigung noch bewältigen muss, lässt den Wanderer einen für Flachländer besonderen Blick erhaschen.
You not only have a complete and beautiful of Hannover and the neighboring Laatzen (metropolitan region of Hannover; expo venue), but also the beginnings of the German low mountain ranges with the Deister mounds, which in turn is part of the emerging Weser Uplands.
Man sieht nicht nur Hannover und das benachbarte Laatzen (Metropolregion Hannover; Messe-Standort der Expo), sondern auch die Anfänge der deutschen Mittelgebirge mit dem Deister, der wiederum ein Teil des beginnenden Wesergebirges ist.
On a sunny day like today, one can see very far and melancholic thoughts, as well as wanderlust, take on a life of their own.
An einem Tag wie heute kann man sehr weit sehen und die Gedanken sowie das Fernweh bekommen ein Eigenleben.
The desire to keep hiking was strong, even though my body cried out for rest. The next hill was so close and yet so far away.
Man möchte immer weiterwandern, auch der Körper nach Ruhe brüllt. Der nächste Hügel ist so nah und doch so fern.
At some point, I just want to keep hiking. To the next hill and beyond. It's about 20 kilometers away and situated in the Deister mountains. But when you stand on one of these small summits of Hannover's backyard mountain range, you can already see the Harz Mountains in the distance, and almost catch a glimpse of the legendary Blocksberg, the Brocken.
Irgendwann möchte ich einfach mal weiterwandern. Bis zum nächsten Hügel. Der ist zwar gute 20 Kilometer entfernt und schon im Deister. Doch wenn man auf einem dieser kleinen Gipfel des Hausgebirges der Region Hannover steht, sieht man in der Ferne schon den Harz und damit fast den sagenumwobenen Blocksberg, den Brocken.
One could continue spinning this tale indefinitely. Once you're in the Harz Mountains, you can already anticipate the next low mountain ranges in the middle of Germany, and if you keep going, you'll eventually find yourself in the Alps.
Man könnte es ewig so weiter spinnen. Ist man erst einmal im Harz, kann man die nächsten Mittelgebirge bereits erahnen und geht man weiter, steht man irgendwann in den Alpen.
While I am more grounded in nature, during my young adult years, I often moved within Germany, and at times, the wanderlust still living in me resurfaces.
Ich bin zwar ein eher erdverwachsener Mensch, doch bin ich in meiner jungen Erwachsenenzeit oft in Deutschland umgezogen und das Fernweh blitzt zu Zeiten immer mal wieder auf.
Especially when hiking, I often think to myself that I could just set off and experience an adventure like Bilbo in the Fellowship of the Ring, when he pours his heart out to Gandalf.
Vor allem beim Wandern denke ich mir oft, ich könnte einfach mal loswandern und ein Abenteuer erleben.
Well, who recognizes this longing sentence and can sympathize? :o)
In our hearts, most of us have a tiny Bilbo in us. And this wanderlust will accompany me into old age, even if I never leave my homeland for an extended period of time again. Because the region is simply too beautiful for that and I'm too old for that shit.
But daydreams are important nonetheless.
Na, wer kennt diesen sehnsüchtigen Satz? :o) .
Im Herzen sind die meisten von uns ein kleiner Bilbo. Und dieses Fernweh wird mich ins hohe Alter begleiten, auch wenn meine Heimat wohl nie wieder für längere Zeit verlassen werde.
Dafür ist die Region einfach zu schön.
Aber träumen muss erlaubt sein.
