Skyfall (2012) - Movie Review

The classic of the best agent in the service of Her Majesty in a modern edition inspires admiration. "Skyfall" shows everything that we love agent 007 for, but also takes a completely different track.

Agent 007 has always been the embodiment of every man's dreams. One man carrying out a deadly mission to save the world, always surrounded by beautiful women and unusual gadgets. The image of unsurpassed adventures we only dream of. And although films with Her Majesty's agent were often nothing more than a fairy tale for adults, it was the atmosphere of these productions that contributed to the great popularity of the undefeated agent.

"Bond. James Bond." One of the most recognizable cinematic issues is once again reaching the ears of another beautiful Bond girl, this time thanks to the creator of dramatic pictures, Sam Mendes. What may be disturbing at the outset is the person on the director's stool, which in terms of filmography does not match the light tone of most adventures of the undefeated MI6 agent. However, Skyfall, being a mixture of light style with fueled seriousness, successively promotes the new image of the main character, started from the first appearance of Daniel Craig as 007. The same hero, the same habits, but given in a completely new tone.

It is a twenty-third film about the adventures of an agent of British services, the director, to the delight of the fans of the series, decided once again to return to some extent to the old Bond - the one we will never forget. The James Bond he shows us has lost none of his charisma and apparent self-criticism. He is still a great agent with sharp humor and brilliant statements that deprive his opponents of all verbal advantages, and beautiful ladies of all unnecessary clothing. He still has no equal in combat, and where physical strength is not enough, he is assisted by amazing gadgets.

At the same time, however, with each successive scene, the main character deviates a bit from the loose tone, becoming a bit brutal in his actions, and more human at the same time. Smuggling with conviction a new vision of the agent himself, the creators of Skyfall fondly refer to the classic of Bond adventures, through a series of shots or plays of individual characters sometimes catching a slight kitsch. In some places, modern musical themes seem to be intertwined with recognizable old school sounds.

What could not be missing, of course, are the aforementioned gadgets participating in the dangerous adventures of agent 007. Starting with the gun that recognizes the owner's hand, the filmmakers also tried to introduce the Aston Martin DB5 - a classic vehicle once driven by Sean Connery , and shown on one of the posters promoting the film. Fans of the series should also be pleased with the return of Q - the inventor and genius mind in the humble person of Ben Whishaw. The scene of the hero's first conversation with an MI6 agent doesn't even try to be serious - smuggling Q's smart and accurate statements in response to 007's witty attacks, viewers get a nice replay of good old Bond, never out of shape on verbal dueling. What, however, is the bane of many productions, has also caught the newest Bond, namely the so-called product placement. Agent 007 is famous for sipping one specific drink - Martini with vodka. As it turns out, 007 also does not disdain beer, especially beer that spares no budget for advertising with him. However, if such scenes are not laughed at, they will fit perfectly into the humorous fragments without which no one can imagine Her Majesty's agent.
