Hello Steemians,
I have been thinking about this for a while now and am now happy to announce upcoming eSteem Desktop version of eSteem app that works on your Windows, Mac and Linux machines.
Initial version will be ported from eSteem Mobile and over the course of next few month will be migrated to fully featured desktop application with notifications, posting, commenting, voting, wallet/fund control, etc. to leverage desktop features and security.
This post is to get initial feedback from community and hope to bring initial eSteem desktop before/during SteemFest.
eSteem desktop will use similar technology behind Slack, Rocket chat desktop applications. If you are using slack or rocket.chat from your desktop pc, you already know what I am talking about and what to expect... :-)
eSteem desktop will give you possibility to connect any websocket be it your own server or some other server or default steemit.com websocket. Having this ability alone makes app useful if steemit.com becomes unavailable for some reason you can continue using eSteem and still be connected to network. Desktop app also gives multiple advantages over websites, of course, app can easily be ported and hosted as a website too and that's also long term projections, but having app would give better notifications, accessibility and security control...
Features
Every feature of eSteem mobile will be re-implemented specifically for desktops. Design and features will be enhanced and some security improvements and different notifications will be implemented since desktop computers have a different structure. Handling profile and cover pictures also requires some re-factoring, many mobile specific features will be re-implemented to support and give better desktop experience.
