A estas alturas de la temporada, cada equipo contendiente por un cupo para Octubre, necesita que TODAS sus piezas aporten con el fin de obtener victorias. Los casos de Orioles de Baltimore metidos en una pelea por la azotea del este de la liga Americana con los Yankees y la pelea por mantener los cupos de comodines en favor de los D-backs de Arizona y los Padres de San Diego en el oeste de la liga Nacional contra los Dodgers, son el mejor ejemplo de la relevancia de cada triunfo. De allí el porqué los hermanos Suárez (Albert y Robert), además de Eugenio, son vitales engranajes en sus equipos.
Comenzando por el último de ellos, Eugenio llegó desde los Marineros de Seattle en el invierno pasado, para ayudar con la ofensiva del equipo tan maltrecha luego de la partida de piezas claves. La temporada al inicio no prometía el rédito que los D-Backs de Arizona pagaron por él, ya que su bate parecía dormido. Pero bastó que el calor del verano se presentara y lo demás ha sido historia. El 30 de Julio coronó un mes de ensueño al botar tres pelotas en un mismo partido, convirtiéndose en el 4to. venezolano en lograr la hazaña ¿Los otros tres? Miguel Cabrera, Magglio Ordoñez y Víctor Martínez.

At this point in the season, every team contending for an October berth needs ALL of its pieces to contribute in order to get wins. The cases of the Baltimore Orioles in a battle for the American League East roof with the Yankees and the fight to keep the wild card spots in favor of the Arizona D-backs and the San Diego Padres in the NL West against the Dodgers, are the best example of the relevance of every win. Hence why the Suarez brothers (Albert and Robert), in addition to Eugenio, are vital cogs in their teams.
Starting with the latter, Eugenio arrived from the Seattle Mariners last winter to help with the team's offense, so battered after the departure of key players. The early season did not promise the return the Arizona D-Backs paid for him, as his bat seemed dormant. But all it took was for the summer heat to show up and the rest has been history. On July 30, he crowned a dream month by bouncing three balls in the same game, becoming the 4th Venezuelan to accomplish the feat. The others? Miguel Cabrera, Magglio Ordoñez and Víctor Martínez.
Pero el ensañamiento de Suárez vendría a ser perfeccionado en el mítico monstruo verde de Boston, en la serie de fin de semana comenzada el viernes pasado. No solo barrieron los D-Backs para mantener el cupo del primer comodín de la liga Nacional, sino que batearon demasiado. 23 carreras anotadas en tres partidos dan una perspectiva de las palizas. Y Eugenio contribuyó bateando como nunca, botando la pelota en dos ocasiones: el viernes con las bases llenas y ayer con dos hombres en las bases. Siete carreras a la registradora con tan solo dos batazos ¿no es increíble?
Entretanto el mayor de los hermanos Suárez, Albert, maniataba la ofensiva de los Astros de Houston el sábado, permitiendo tan solo cuatro hits, ponchando a tres y regalando dos boletos en cinco innings y dos tercios. Pero se fue sin decisión, porque dos de esos hits fueron jonrones y cuando bajó del montículo dejó el partido abajo por dos carreras. Pero lo mantuvo cerca que era lo que importaba. En el cierre de ese mismo inning, los Orioles remontaron con tres carreras para limpiar la derrota de Suárez y convertirla en una salida de calidad. Trabajo en equipo.

But Suarez's rampage would come to be perfected in Boston's mythical Green Monster in the weekend series that began last Friday. Not only did the D-Backs sweep to keep the National League's first wild card spot, but they hit too many. 23 runs scored in three games gives some perspective on the beatings. And Eugenio contributed by hitting like never before, bouncing the ball twice: Friday with the bases loaded and yesterday with two men on base. Seven runs to the plate with only two hits, isn't it incredible?
Meanwhile, the eldest of the Suarez brothers, Albert, manhandled the Houston Astros' offense on Saturday, allowing just four hits, striking out three and giving away two tickets in five innings and two-thirds. But he left without a decision, as two of those hits were home runs and when he came off the mound he left the game down by two runs. But he kept it close, which was what mattered. At the close of that same inning, the Orioles came back with three runs to wipe away Suarez's loss and turn it into a quality outing. Teamwork.
Con la victoria del sábado, los oropéndolas se acercaban a medio juego de los Yankees en la punta de la división este de la liga Americana (aunque ayer cayeron y se distanciaron a juego y medio). A Suárez no lo bajarán de nuevo a las menores, seguros estamos de ello. Su hermano menor, Robert, subió a la lomita en el noveno episodio de ayer. El juego se encontraba empatado y retiró a los tres bateadores que enfrentó por la vía rápida. El récord de Suárez se colocó en 8 ganados, 1 perdido y 29 salvados. Nada mal en 51 entradas de labor con 49 ponches. Un cerrador de lujo. La victoria ante los Mets, significó mantener el segundo puesto del comodín de la liga, delante de los Bravos de Atlanta a quienes les costará dar alcance a los religiosos. ¿Coincidencia de que los tres se apelliden Suárez? Bueno, hay un cuarto Suárez llamado Ranger quien regresó el sábado a la rotación de Filadelfia y lanzó 5 episodios permitiendo una sola carrera, para llevarse el primer triunfo desde Junio. ¿Cómo se llama la obra? With Saturday's win, the Orioles moved within a half-game of the Yankees for the lead in the American League East division (although they fell yesterday and pulled within a game and a half). Suarez won't be demoted back to the minors, we're sure of it. His younger brother, Robert, took the mound in the ninth inning yesterday. The game was tied and he retired all three batters he faced on the fast track. Jackson Merrill took care of hitting a golden home run at the end of that inning, to decree the victory of the Creole.
Suarez's record stood at 8 wins, 1 loss and 29 saves. Not bad in 51 innings of work with 49 strikeouts. A luxury closer. The victory against the Mets, meant keeping the second wild card spot in the league, ahead of the Atlanta Braves who will have a hard time catching up with the religious. Coincidence that all three are named Suarez? Well, there's a fourth Suarez named Ranger who returned to the Philadelphia rotation on Saturday and pitched 5 episodes allowing just one run, to pick up the first win since June. What's the name of the play? The genius of the Suarez.
