Searching For Sugar Man Sixto Rodriguez

Rodriguez began to make music on the late 1960's, he published two studio albums: Cold Fact in 1970 and Coming from Reality in 1971. Due to low sales he was fired from the record label and then he started doing odd jobs. He worked as a construction worker and he even tried to do some political work.

People of South Africa loved Rodriguez's music, but they knew almost nothing about him. A lot of people even thought that he was dead. There were crazy theories, like 'he has set himself on fire on the stage' or that 'he had shot himself'. People started to get more interested on his story and journalist began investigating. They didn't know where to start, but after examining the lyrics form Rodriguez's songs they found clues. Eventually they found Rodriguez daughter (or she found them). He was alive! And he didn't knew he was more famous, loved and had been a source of inspiration for South African people than most commercial musicians! They immediately asked him if he could come to give out concerts. Life surely has its unexpected turns!

Even after becoming a Rock Star, Rodriguez kept being a very humble and simple person. He gave away almost all of his earning to friends and family. His story was so amazing that people decided to make a documentary and it was such a hit that it won an Oscar. Rodriguez is now 75 years old and he keeps being an awesome inspiration. He never wanted to be famous or rich, he just wanted to make good music.

These are some of his most famous songs/Estas son de sus canciones más famosas:

One final thought: Everything happens for a reason and hard work is always compensated.
