Thank you to everyone who has done a savings post so far - great to have you with us. Please check the chart to make sure I have it right š and let me know in the comments if I've missed a savings post.
Now then, time to get serious with our savings. Yes, it's that time again, a NO-BUY Month š¤. I'm planning it for March so we have a week or two to get ready and decide how we are going to play the NO-BUY Month this time around. For newcomers, last year's NO-BUY Month was one of the most successful and popular activities we did. This year, we're going to have TWO no-buy months - March and another one later in the year.
March 2022 NO-BUY Month - SPI Giveaway!
A NO-BUY Month is when you make a pledge about what you are going to spend (essentials like food, housing, transport, childcare etc) and what you are not going to buy. You might say you are not going to buy take-outs or go to the corner shop for a pint of milk and buy lots of other things you didn't need. You might choose not to buy any more make-up/sports gear/books or beer. Or you might choose to take sandwiches or walk or cycle to work. Just for one month! š
The idea is to take a look at what we are spending and whether there is anywhere we can find some extra savings. Last year, one person saved lots by changing how they bought groceries. They ordered online instead of going to the store and kept to the minimum order for delivery. Anything they couldn't get this week went on to the list for next week.
This week we are going to start thinking about:
- the list of essential items
- our budget for discretionary spending - like gifts, education and going out.
- items we are definitely not going to buy in March.
