Safari Gallery

Hello, Hiver friends!

During our visit to Baluarte Zoo, we were able to see the Safari Gallery and get a glimpse of the hunter's collection, where all the remains of his hunted and captured animals were preserved and displayed. The gallery included a wide variety of animals on display from all over the world.

If you are against killing animals, I believe you won't even step inside the gallery and appreciate its display. We don't agree with animal cruelty either; we just take a look inside out of curiosity.

Our guide gave us a little background on the gallery. He said that when the owner's or hunter's collection grew and no longer fit in its exhibit room, he built a bigger space for all his hunting trophies. When wealthy individuals run out of things to buy with their money, they find a weird and expensive hobby to spend their money on.

Most of the preserved animals here were imported—more species we've never seen before. Too bad their lives were just ended by hunting—not for consumption to survive but to be used as trophies for display. Just imagine the number of animals that were killed just to fill this huge gallery. I remember leaving the gallery with a uncomfortable feeling and with a heavy heart. I was bothered.

Have you ever seen this kind of display? How did you feel about it?
