I Monti Pelati, anche chiamati Monti Rossi, sono una stretta fascia di colline situate tra Baldissero Canavese e Vidracco, caratteristici proprio perché il colore e il territorio arido li fanno spiccare su tutto il resto dell’ambiente.

The Monti Pelati, also called Monti Rossi, are a narrow strip of hills located between Baldissero Canavese and Vidracco, characteristic precisely because the color and the arid territory make them stand out from the rest of the environment.
Il motivo per cui il territorio si presenta in questo modo è perché è composto da rocce Peridotiti, ricche di ferro e magnesio. Le Peridotiti sono rocce molto dure e compatte che resistono maggiormente agli agenti erosivi rispetto agli altri materiali rocciosi.

The reason why the territory looks like this is because it is composed of Peridotite rocks, rich in iron and magnesium. Peridotites are very hard and compact rocks that are more resistant to erosive agents than other rocky materials.
Dall’alterazione dei minerali di ferro e magnesio, si generano suoli molto acidi e poco sviluppati. La vegetazione che ricopre questo piccolo rilievo è di conseguenza povera di alberi ma ricca di specie erbacee e arbustive non comuni.

From the alteration of iron and magnesium minerals, very acidic and poorly developed soils are generated. The vegetation that covers this small relief is consequently poor in trees but rich in uncommon herbaceous and shrub species.
Sebbene questo territorio attiri tantissimo l’attenzione degli appassionati di geologia, è anche un ambiente molto amato dagli appassionati di trekking ed escursionismo. Sono presenti infatti degli splendidi sentieri che attraversano tutta la zona e raggiungono Torre Cives (una torre costruita a scopo difensivo nel XII secolo). Oltre ad essere una passeggiata molto facile e in bassa quota, è caratterizzata da una splendida visuale sulle valli circostanti.

Although this area attracts a lot of the attention of geology enthusiasts, it is also a much loved environment for trekking and hiking enthusiasts. There are in fact some splendid paths that cross the whole area and reach Torre Cives (a tower built for defensive purposes in the 12th century). In addition to being a very easy and low-altitude walk, it is characterized by a splendid view of the surrounding valleys.

Let's now pass to the explanation of the easy and fast itinerary starting from the Municipality of Baldissero Canavese and which crosses the entire Monti Pelati Reserve.

Attenzione all’inizio del percorso, non confondere Baldissero Torinese con Baldissero Canavese!
Parcheggia l’auto davanti al municipio di Baldissero, dall’altra parte della strada troverai un carinissimo cartello con scritto “Via Monti Pelati”. È la partenza dell’itinerario, che si addentra nel bosco.
Questa parte del sentiero è in salita e un po’ più dura rispetto al resto, ma non preoccuparti. Non appena avrai raggiunto l’apice della collina e sarai uscito dal bosco il sentiero diventa più pianeggiante.
Troverai le indicazioni che dovrai seguire per raggiungere Torre Cives. Fino alla torre il sentiero si presenta con parti pianeggianti e sali-scendi, guardati intorno e fai un po’ di foto perché questo tipo di paesaggio non lo troverai altrove in Piemonte.

Attention at the beginning of the route, do not confuse Baldissero Torinese with Baldissero Canavese! Park your car in front of the Baldissero town hall, across the street you will find a cute sign that reads "Via Monti Pelati". This is the start of the itinerary, which goes into the woods. This part of the path is uphill and a little harder than the rest, but don't worry. As soon as you reach the top of the hill and come out of the woods, the path becomes flatter.
You will find the directions you will need to follow to reach Torre Cives. Up to the tower, the path has flat and up-and-down parts, look around and take some photos because you won't find this type of landscape elsewhere in Piedmont.
