Kimberley's story - Part 2

At a speed of 55 miles per hour, which was strictly forbidden in that area, she drove home.

In her mind, she relived the previous night once again.

Jane and Anne, her colleagues, had asked her to go with them to the club. There she met Brandon, a light colored gentleman, brown eyes with beautiful eyebrows, warm voice and a body to devour. They had some drinks and danced together. And before she knew it, they ended up in an appartment. Well, she enjoyed it.

She parked the car in front of the house, got out and walked toward the brown-painted gate, fishing her house keys out of her purse. She opened the gate, walked past the green painted house, through to the back.

In the backyard of the Deerke's there was a small house, an one room apartment with toilet and bath, a small kitchen and a living room where with difficulty a sofa fitted. For two months Priscilla had been renting the house from the Deerke's, quiet people who did not interfere in her life. She walked into the house and closed the door behind me. After a hot shower, she crawled under her blankets. Today was Sunday, so she had a nice day off from work.

Priscilla jolted awake with a splitting headache. Blinking her eyes, she sat up. She frowned with her eyes. What was that sound? Oh...her cell phone was ringing, somewhere in the living room. A glance at the clock let her know it was 10 o'clock. So she had just been asleep for 2 hours. Who was calling her now? She got up from the bed and stumbled to the living room. Where was her mobile? Somewhere in her bag probably. Where was that bag now? She found it behind the couch and pulled out her cell phone. A strange number.
'Hello.'
It was silent on the other end of the line.
'Hello.', she said again. She heard a sob.

Slowly but surely she came to her senses a little more.
'Who is this?'
'Hey Priscilla...with Maurice.'
Maurice? Priscilla shook her head.
Maurice! Her friend from the Lyceum!
'Hey Maurice!',she said cheerfully only to stiffen immediately afterwards. Maurice was crying!
'Maurice..is everything okay?', she blurted out.
'No Priscilla, I'm not all right. Haven't you heard?', Maurice sobbed.
'Heard?! Heard what? No! What happened?'
'Kimberley...'
'Kimberley?! What about Kimberley?'
'She's no more...she's not...'
Priscilla felt a lump in her throat.
'Kimberley? Kimberley no more? How could that be!
'No it can't. You're joking!'

'Why would I joke about such a thing..she's no more Priscilla. She's gone.'
'But how? It's just not possible.'
Priscilla's eyes became wet with tears and she swallowed, as a tear slid down her cheek, leaving a trail of sadness.
'She committed suicide...'
'What!', screamed Priscilla louder now.

With tears in her eyes, she began to laugh hysterically.
'Suicide?! And Kimberley?! Never!'
'And yet it is, Priscilla.'

There was silence on the line for a moment. Both Maurice and Priscilla were both with their thoughts on Kimberley.

After several seconds that seemed like hours, Priscilla broke the silence: 'Is it known why she did it?'
'No. Her brother called to tell me, but I didn't ask much at the time. He only told me that they found her this morning.
'Shall we go to her house tomorrow night?'
'Yeah..yeah sure. Did you call Vanithy?'
'Yes.'

It was silent again for a moment. This time Maurice broke the silence.
'Allright, we'll agree tomorrow then what time etc.'

'Yeah, that's good. Hey Maurice, thanks for your call.'
'Yeah you too Priscilla.'

For a long time after Maurice disconnected, Priscilla held her mobile to her ear. Was this real or was she dreaming. How could this be?
