Este post está escrito en respuesta a la iniciativa "En Armonía con la Madre Tierra" patrocinada por la comunidad Holos&Lotus. Se invita a los escritores a explicar qué acciones realizas para cuidar de nuestra "Madre Tierra ". Agradezco a @cetb2008 que me haya introducido en una comunidad tan valiosa. Intento vivir el tipo de existencia que muestra el amor por la tierra. Las modificaciones en mi vida para lograr este objetivo no son dramáticas. Los principios básicos que guían mis acciones diarias son: consumir menos y conservar más. Dos métodos de conservación son el reciclaje y la donación de artículos usados a organizaciones benéficas.
Mi marido y yo compramos nuestra casa en 1974. En los últimos 47 años, hemos perdido árboles en el terreno que rodea mi casa. Dos árboles murieron por enfermedad. Un árbol fue destruido por una terrible tormenta. Aquí hay una foto del árbol después de la tormenta.
Mira el enorme agujero en el suelo. Hace dos años, finalmente planté un arbolito en lugar del gran árbol.

El arbolito ha sobrevivido dos inviernos y ahora parece más fuerte, como puede verse en esta foto.
Si observas la zona que rodea al arbolito, verás dientes de león. Esto ilustra otro de mis enfoques para amar la tierra. No utilizo herbicidas ni fertilizantes químicos, como suele hacer la mayoría de la gente de mi barrio. Arranco los dientes de león a mano y sólo permito que el fertilizante orgánico me ayude a mantener el césped verde.
Además de mi atención a los árboles, tengo un gran interés por los animales sin hogar.
En mi barrio hubo una vez gatos callejeros. Durante muchos años he mantenido refugios junto a mi casa para estos gatos. Participo en un programa de captura y esterilización que evita la proliferación de gatos callejeros. Aquí hay una foto de algunos de los refugios que mantengo para los gatos.
Como esta actividad requiere mucho trabajo, ahora mis hijos hacen muchas de las tareas por mí. A mi edad me resulta muy difícil hacer lo que antes hacía. Pero les proporciono comida a los gatos y cualquier otra cosa que necesiten.
Además de estas acciones, tengo un contenedor para la basura que es reciclable. También, si no necesito ropa o cualquier otra cosa, dono estos artículos a los pobres de mi barrio. Incluso hay un receptáculo en el barrio para la ropa vieja que se puede convertir en trapos.
No tengo un gran programa para salvar la tierra, pero cada día intento respetar la vida que existe en todos los seres, en cualquier forma que aparezca. Ya no visito los zoológicos. En años pasados disfrutaba viendo animales en el zoo. Ahora me doy cuenta de que los animales deben estar en la naturaleza, no en jaulas.
Apoyo a organizaciones que trabajan para mejorar la calidad de vida de todos los animales. Entre estas organizaciones están los refugios locales y The Non Human Rights Project.

I try to live the kind of existence that shows love for the earth. The modifications in my life to achieve this goal are not dramatic. The basic principles that guide my daily actions are: consume less and conserve more. Two methods of conservation are recycling and donating used items to charity.
My husband and I bought our house in 1974. Over the past 47 years, we have lost trees on the land surrounding my house. Two died from disease. One was destroyed by a powerful storm. Here's a photo of the fallen tree after the storm.
Look at the huge hole in the ground. Two years ago, I finally planted a sapling in place of the lost tree.

The sapling has survived two winters and now looks stronger, as can be seen in this photo.
If you observe the area around the sapling, you will see dandelions. This illustrates another of my approaches toward loving earth. I do not use weed killers, or chemical fertilizers, as most people in my area are likely to do. I pluck the dandelions by hand and only allow organic fertilizer to help keep my grass green.
In addition to my interest in trees, I have a great concern for homeless animals.
In my neighborhood there were once stray cats. For many years I have maintained shelters for these cats next to my home. I participate in a trap and neuter program that prevents the proliferation of stray cats. Here is a photo of some of the shelters I maintain for the cats.
Since this activity requires a lot of work, my children now do many of the chores for me. At my age it is difficult to do what I used to do. But I provide food for the cats and anything else they need.
In addition to these actions, I have a container for garbage that is recyclable. Also, if I don't need clothes or something else, I donate these items to the poor in my neighborhood. There is even a receptacle in the neighborhood for old clothes that can be made into rags.
I don't have a big program to save the earth, but every day I try to respect the life that exists in all beings, in whatever form it appears. I no longer visit zoos. In years past I enjoyed going to the zoo. Now I realize that animals belong in the wild, not in cages.
I support organizations that work to improve the quality of life for all animals. Among these organizations are local shelters and The Non Human Rights Project.
My friend @cetb2008 has a spectacular post for this topic. My post is not that impressive, but I couldn't resist his invitation to participate in such a worthy initiative. I would like to invite my friend @mballesteros to participate (although there is not much time left). She has great respect for all living things.
I first wrote the Spanish version of this post and then put it through DeepL for corrections. I then translated the Spanish version into English. If my English is a bit stilted, I think this process explains it.
