19. Good News For Women's Colleges, Congratulations Beth!

Mount Saint Mary's, the only women's university in Los Angeles, is thrilled about Congress's history-making recognition of the importance of women's colleges in advancing diversity and inclusion:

Mount Saint Mary's wanted to express particular gratitude to the Women's College Coalition for leading this Congressional effort.

Who is on the small Board of Directors of the Women's College Coalition?

Ain't that neat?

Beth Hillman, as President of a women's college, is lobbying the government to recognize the importance of women's colleges at an "absolutely pivotal time for women in America". While at the same time racing at breakneck speed to terminate Mills College's existence as a women's college, the oldest one West of the Rockies.

Strangely, there is no mention of this good news for gender justice and forthcoming budgetary assistance on any of the Mills College social media channels - which for some reason have become suddenly very active in the last few months after long periods of much less frequent posting over the last few years.

Here is the text from the Bill:

The Women's College Coalition is talking about Mills College, so why isn't Mills talking about this history-making achievement of the Women's College Coalition?

How can it be that an organization that President Hillman is a Director of is spreading disinformation about Mills College on their web site and in their July 16, 2021 press release? Mills College has not "closed their doors as [a] degree granting institution" and nor has it gone co-ed. Indeed, we have only been told "the Board has authorized talks with Northeastern, nothing is finalized".

The new picture on the cover page of Mills College's "Student Life" paints a thousand words:

Sweet Smell Of Success For Sweet Briar

Also on the Board of the Women's College Coalition is the President of Sweet Briar College, Meredith Woo. In 2015 the former President and Board of Sweet Briar announced that the College would have to close, using the familiar refrain of "the problems are insurmountable, nobody else could have done any better". Students, alums, faculty and other stakeholders sued the Board and won . They were successful in keeping the College and replacing the leadership. Six years later Sweet Briar is flourishing, admissions and donations keep smashing goals and the alumnae network is more engaged than ever.

"Our alumnae network is vast and deep, and this year reminds us that we can accomplish so much together"

Sweet Briar did it. Mills College can do it too.

For Generations Still

Mills College deserves to endure. We demand #NewLeadership with the capabilities and vision to keep Mills going For Generations Still.

Please support the Alumnae Association of Mills College campaign, donate if you have anything you can spare for this worthy cause and sign up for their new mailing list at aamc-mills.org.

We are not part of the AAMC but we stand in solidarity with them in this battle against the small gang of charlatans trying to get away with this egregious and outrageous heist. #MillsForever
