TISA the "secret" trading agreement & why you should care

What is TISA?

TISA is a abbreviation for Trade in Services Agreement, basically a deal that will privatize public services within all fields and sell the rights to perform these services to private companies.
Together, the participating countries is responsible for 70% of the worlds trade in services

The agreement includes several parties:

Australia, Canada, Chile, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Costa Rica, the EU, Hong Kong China, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Korea, Liechtenstein, Mauritius, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, Turkey and the United States.

Why is this wrong?

  • By minimalizing the costs of public services like healthcare, who do you think will feel the cutbacks?
That's right, the consumers of these services. Several examples of this exist, one of them that i would like to mention is the private healthcare sector in Sweden.
JB Education was responsible delivering services to old people's homes but made a cutback in costs that resulted in discomfort. The staff did not change the diapers until they were full to save money, the elderly who helped build our nation were forced to sit and walk around in soaked diapers to reduce diaper usage.

TISA will result in suffering for the consumer, while the shareholders and CEO's of these firms get great returns in profiting on other peoples misfortune.

You may have heard of companies prepared to sue countries for their regulations. In this example we have a tobacco company prepared to sue the UK for their regulation regarding cigarette packaging in plain packages.
With TISA in play this wouldn't have been a problem, the tobacco company could just overrule their regulations.
This apply to plenty of services, the world trade agreement would be overrun by the TISA.

    Some important bullet-points

    • TISA is made to protect big investors
The idea behind TISA is to protect multiinternasjonal investors against democracy and new regulations.

    • TISA want to remove regulations
With TISA will multinational companies not only be able to claim the same rules as national companies, but also be able to attack any regulation concerning the service they sell

    • TISA will last forever
TISA may contain a so-called "standstill clause" , a rule that says you can not create "new barriers to services." this means that it will be impossible to make a privatized service public again.

    • TISA will apply to important public services
Public services are in theory exempt from the TISA Agreement, but the definition of public services is so narrow that most public services will be covered by the agreement.
Only services where there are no private providers will be regarded as public services. But key public services such as nursing homes, kindergartens and schools are fully competitive under the TISA Agreement

Agreements with similar elements have been stopped before, so how do we stop TISA?

      • What can i do?
Share this post, spread the word and research what privatizing public services will mean for you, your parents and your children.

Share your discomfort with such an agreement, TISA is only made to protect big companies not you as a average citizen.

As a final word to the users of steemit regarding this awful contract many countries plan to include them self in, i hope you are all informed. This agreement is a secret pact they plan to force through with little to no information given to the public.

      We need to say no!
We don't want big companies to make profit by causing misfortune to our grandparents, parents, our self and our kids.
