An idea arose to follow the current #Poliac competition with a new tournament. Let's use a working name of "Poliac - Champions League". This post outlines the rules.

1. Qualification

The competition is designed for 16 participants of the Poliac league. Any mention of "Poliac standings" refers to the final standings (as of 31.07, 22:00 CEST) The following participants will qualify:

1.1. Automatic qualification:

top 7 players of the Poliac league
They shall be called, respectively, p1, p2, p3, ... p7 further down.

1.2. Qualifying play-offs:

8 winners of qualifiers
Participants who finish the Poliac league on places 8-23 will be paired for a play-off (2 legs) according to the following scheme:
p8 vs p23
p7 vs p22
p10 vs p21
p11 vs p20
p12 vs p19
p13 vs p18
p14 vs p17
p15 vs p16
The winners will be further down called, respectively:

The player will be further down called:
wc

1.4 Non-participation

Eligible players, who do not wish to take part in the new competition, should declare so by 31 July, 22:00 CEST by commenting this post "I do not wish to participate in #POLIAC-CL". Should this happen, the eligible will be shifted up one place to fill the empty slot.

1.5 Eligible players

The eligible players and will be decided on 31 July, 22:00 based on the final standings of the Poliac league. An example, as of writing (49-50 rounds played), is provided at the end of this post

2. Scoring

2.1 General rules

Points are awarded based on ActiFit app reports published by participants for their "matches". Each "match" is played between two players and the score is decided the following way:

  1. Activity number ("steps") from ActiFit report is divided by 1000 and rounded to the nearest integer (0.5 rounds up to 1). This number will be called "goal"
  2. The player with highest goals is the winner and gets 3 points; the opponent - 0 points.
  3. If both players have the same amount of goals, a draw is decalred and both get 1 point.
  4. In case one of the players doesn't submit a valid ActiFit report, a walk-over is declared - the other player will get 3 points and score 10:0 in goals.

Comment: the goals concept will introduce an interesting dynamic in both group stage and play-offs.

2.2 Group phase scoring

Group phase will consist of 4 groups of 4 players. Competition will be held in double round robin mode (6 match days). The final standings will be decided the following way:

  1. Higher number of points
  2. Higher number of goals "for"
  3. Lower number of goals "against"
  4. Total "steps" from ActiFit reports across all 6 match days.
  5. In a very unlikely case of a tie at this point, the above procedure will be used for the players who are still tied, taking into account only direct matches between them

2.3. Play-offs scoring

2.3.1. Rounds with two legs

These rules apply to qualifiers, quarterfinals and semifinals

  1. Rules 1-3 of group phase apply
  2. Total "steps" from ActiFit reports for the two legs in question
  3. In a very unlikely case of a tie at this point, the player who finished the Poliac league at a higher position shall be declared the winner

2.3.2. Rounds with single match

These rules apply to the final

  1. Total "steps" from ActiFit reports for the two legs in question
  2. In a very unlikely case of a tie at this point, the player who finished the Poliac league at a higher position shall be declared the winner
