It's a great time to look up!

It's a great time to be looking up before sunrise or after sunset here in the UK at the moment. I guess the caveat being, if you're interested in the night sky.

So what can you see? The Plough is visible in the evenings and Orion is looking rather magnificent in the morning at the moment. However, there you can also see a bunch of planets.

Please excuse the rather naff photo but shooting in the dark isn't one of my phone's strong points. I took this late last week and the star linke feature just right of centre in the sky is Venus. It's the brightest feature of the morning sky other than the moon if that's out.

Mars is currently visible to the east at the moment as the sun sets. It has a slight orange tint to it and is one of the fist objects visible as the sun sets.

Jupiter is currently the brightest object in the evening sky to the south and Saturn is visible just to the left of it. Grab your binoculars if you have a semi decent pair as they may enable you to see some of Jupiter's moons. You might just be able to work out Saturn's disk but I've not tried. I might have a go this evening.

Remember, if you do go have a look it is good to leave your optics outside for a while before you start viewing.
