Old Field Lighthouse

Old Field Lighthouse at Old Field Point in the Village of Old Field, Long Island, NY. Old Field borders Long Island Sound. and has two prominent points of land jutting into the Sound. The other being Crane's Neck. Off these points are large rocks that are hazardous to ships that come to close.

The first lighthouse on Old Field Point was erected in 1822. The present one after the Civil War in 1868.

Although Crane's Neck sticks out into the water more than Old Field, Old Field got the lighthouse because there were more treacherous rocks and further off shore.
