Shortest Day

Today is the shortest day in the UK, in terms of daylight hours (or lack of).

From tomorrow onwards, the days will get a little longer.

The mornings will start getting lighter sooner and the dark arriving in the afternoon a little later.

It's a day that I celebrate. Not just because Christmas day is just four days away, but because I hate the prolonged darkness of winter.

The 21st December means that Spring is within sight. We'll soon see snowdrops sprout from the ground and baby lambs in the fields. Daffodils won't be long after.

Then we're on the home straight for Summer. Long days and perhaps even some sunshine here in Wales. I can't wait.

But for now, we're in the middle of Winter. And from tomorrow, we're on the right side of it.
