Ambrose Bierce, aparte de dejar para la posteridad un meritorio número de obras, entre las que figura ese gran clásico de la ficción interestelar, que es su novela ‘Estación de tránsito’, dejó también parte de su irónica visión del mundo en una obra, cuya lectura resulta también muy recomendable: ‘El diccionario del Diablo’.

Me parece sumamente elocuente y acertada, sobre todo en los tiempos que corren, aquella parte en la que Bierce, sin duda demostrando rasgos de videncia, define a los viejos como aquellas personas que se encuentran en una etapa cuya utilidad no es incompatible con la ineficacia general.

Mientras su supuesto relevo generacional parece más preocupado por la reivindicación de la legalización del botellón y la bendición Urbi et Orbi del coma etílico, ellos, nuestros queridos viejos, continúan aportando una nota de sensatez en ese bosconiano e ilusorio Jardín de las Delicias en el que se está convirtiendo el mundo, luchando por un derecho justo e inalienable: las pensiones.
