A Good Afternoon - The Calm Before the Storm ...

Driving home from the Jersey Shore this afternoon. Hermine is on her way up the East Coast.

A number of Jersey beaches are privately owned and they charge a hefty entrance fee. If you're caught without your wrist bracelet (yes, they do have spies), you get escorted off the beach and possibly even get a ticket.

Today, at one of these private beaches, they had snow fences up everywhere to prevent people from even getting on the sand, let alone get anywhere near the water. And if you tried to hop the fence and head towards the water, you'd quickly be met by a retired cop who would chase after you on a 4-wheeler and politely ask you to leave.

Whether it was in the name of safety, or simply a ploy to corrall everyone up on the boardwalk where it's much more likely they would spend some cash, who knows?

But it was a beautiful afternoon for the beach, although the water was very rough, as can be seen in the distance. The volunteer sand-baggers were preparing for Hermine's arrival.
