Sampan is a small human-powered boat, usually with the front and rear open, leaving only a crew-sized hole. Canoes are equipped with single or double-headed oars. Sampan was originally only made of wood and used by the Ainu, Aleut and Eskimo for hunting. Now it's made from a variety of customized materials with increasingly varied uses. In some areas the canoe is also known as canoe. While the Indonesian people I met mentioned as "Compreng" boats for crossing.
