Zygoptera, also known as zygopter beetles, is a subspecies of insects comprising middle-sized dragonflies with the posterior wings being identical in shape and size to the previous ones. The wings are very thin to the base, where they have the shape of a peduncle. In rest, always keep the wings straightened along the abdomen. Their body is colored in vivid, often metallic shades. The head is transversal, with eyes distant. Females have ovipozitor with which they lay eggs in the stalks of aquatic plants, sometimes at the surface of the water. Flight is generally weak. They usually meet on the water's edge, their larvae living in the water. They are rapacious carnivorous insects, some caught prey in flight, others are feeding on aphids and other small insects that they catch on plant leaves.
