In Which We Wander the Ice Castles at Night

The Ice Castles in Midway, Utah, have become an annual tradition for many -- myself included!

These man-made structures of ice and snow were originally started as a fundraiser. But they quickly grew in popularity, so much so that typically there is a line for hours to get in. Celebrities have visited during the Sundance Film Festival, people do specialty photo shoots and films, it's a popular place for proposals, and you can even rent it out for special events (though they do limit those for the sake of the public.)

For as many years as I've been going to this -- in fact, I was there for their very first year -- I still had not seen it lit up at night. So yesterday we went out to Midway as the sun was setting, and I finally got to see it lit up.

Their lighting has even gotten more advanced over the years. What started as simple spotlighting and soft white light has now become a festival of colors! Different towers feature different color schemes, and there is even a tunnel where there are dancing rainbow lights!

And don't forget to go down the ice slide!
