Glenkinchie 12YO with Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva

Can you make paradise better with a whisky and cigar? I'm visiting a friend here in Florida and he's really got a great set up with a boat near his condo, overlooking the water. Sitting by the pool drinking and smoking, watching the world go by is a nice way to spend a Sunday.

GLENKINCHIE 12YO SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY

After the Glenlivet 15YO that we finished off previously, I tasked myself with finding a whisky that was akin but better. This whisky from the Lowlands region of Scotland is refreshingly light and smooth, especially on the rocks on a hot day, with enough complexity to sit up and think hmmm that's yummy then sit back down and relax a little more. There's almost no oak to speak of but there's a little honey and floral sweetness followed by a slightly pepper spice finish.

ARTURO FUENTE GRAN RESERVA

This is another non Cuban cigar that I really enjoy. Not very expensive at all with good smoke quantity, although occasionally uneven burn. The flavour of this cigar is light a nutty with a slight bitter mossy after taste.

PAIRING

The pairing was OK, not great. It could have been because my whisky was on the rocks and diluted or it was really hot and not quite comfortable cigar smoking weather (yes there is such a thing). There was no added complexity of flavour but nothing bad about that, just nothing popped.
