Labor day everywhere but where it started - Día del trabajador en todas partes menos donde comenzó

Today May 1 is celebrated in much of the world, mainly in those known as "Westerners" not so much because of their geographical location but because they support a certain type of ideas. Some know the origin of this holiday and others do not.

I am not going to go into details about the antecedents and events that led to the revolt that caused several deaths and dozens of injuries, including some arrested, tried, and hanged.

All for a strike demanding the reduction of the working day to the duration that a law had already set but that many employers and employers systematically ignored. That revolt developed in the United States of America in the late 19th century.

Over the years and when the workers' movements that later became unions were consolidated, they chose precisely May 1 as the day to establish the celebration and commemoration of work and workers.
Curiously, in the country of origin that date was moved to the first Monday in September of each year, for fear of outbreaks of movements oriented towards socialism. A contradiction if there are any.

Here in my country, this day is celebrated with intensity and of course, it is a national holiday, at other times the traditional Plaza de Mayo would be full of people, flags, and delegations from different unions and social movements, something that has become common since the return to the power of the movement known as Peronism, although it already has little of the ideas that gave rise to it.

Due to the pandemic and the restrictions that are once again being hard for everyone, this May 1 can only be remembered from the home of each one of us, saved, immersed in a major outbreak of the disease, few vaccines, and uncertainties of all kinds.
