The Day Before...

So tonight at 11:59 the entire country of South Africa will go on a national shutdown, following suit of many other countries all over the world. Until about yesterday the exact information about what people are allowed to do was a tab bit all over the place, with fake restrictions circulating on social media. Luckily we had our very own minister of police make an official statement to ease our fears. Yes, the mafia, criminal looking guy with the hat in the video below, making jokes amidst a national lock down, that's the minister of police. So when I tell you that our murder rater is higher that the US and any country currently at war, it all makes a bit of sense. Some of the things he said people were not allowed to do was, walk around, walk their dogs, and what probably freaked most folks out here was, that there will be no sale of any liquor during the shutdown. And everyone panic!!

Panic is exactly what hey did, this morning people started queuing at the break of dawn to ensure they have enough booze to get them through the next 21 days. Luckily I'm not much of a drinker, but realized I had completely forgotten to secure lockdown snacks. Also I felt I needed to marvel at the people desperately buying as much alcohol as they can, panic fights are the best. There ques were pretty long and unlike other countries, you can only really buy hard alcohol at liquor stores, only wine is available at the grocery store. Even though all the food stores and anyone working in anything food related will be open, people have been buying as much as they can just in case. I think after a day or two people will hopefully start calming down just a bit. As far as infection rate goes, last I heard was yesterday morning of 709 infections in 20 day, a much higher infection rate than in Italy, which was 400 in 26 days.
