A teenage girl named Chrystul Kizer is facing life in prison for killing her pedophile sex trafficker, and her case has sparked global controversy. Luckily, the attention that the case has received in the media has helped to organize activists to raise money for her bail. Kizer, who is now 19, was released on bail, but still faces charges of arson and first-degree intentional homicide, which carries a mandatory life sentence. Kizer is due back in court at a future, unnamed date, but now she has a legal team to help her fight the charges.
Kizer says that she was being trafficked by the man she killed, 33-year-old Randy Volar, who was trafficking her since she was just 16 years old.
Volar and Kizer met when she was working as an underage escort, and he began requesting her services on a fairly regular basis. At first, the encounters were voluntary, but they quickly began more complicated. During his encounters with the young girl, he was running a hidden camera and collecting the footage. The police caught up with Volar in early 2018 on charges of child enticement, using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, and second-degree sexual assault of a child. Kizer was reportedly among the victims that were shown in the footage that was recovered from Volar’s home. However, Volar only spent a single night in prison, and was quickly released without bail.
As time went on, Kizer’s relationship with Volar became more intense, and he became more controlling and aggressive with her. Eventually, Volar began trafficking young Kizer and taking the money that she made with her other clients to prevent her from gaining any type of independence from him. Kizer then began to distance herself from Volar, but according to her, that is when he became even more aggressive, and even threatened to kill her if she left him. Around the same time, she became involved with a man named Delane Nelson, who reportedly gave her a handgun to defend herself, just in case if Volar followed through on his threats.
Not long after, Kizer ended up back at Volar’s house, and while it is not entirely clear why she went there on her own free will, she says that Volar drugged her while she was at his house. While she was under the influence of whatever drug he had put in her drink, he tried to rape her, and during some point in the struggle, Kizer fired the gun, shooting Volar twice in the head. She then set his body on fire and fled the scene in his BMW, but she says that she doesn’t remember any of it.
She was later picked up by police in nearby Milwaukee, and eventually confessed to the killing after an intense interrogation.
