Khaleda Zia in jail in Nazimuddin Road

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been sentenced to five years in jail in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case. After the pronouncement of the verdict, BNP chairperson has been taken to jail in Nazimuddin Road.
In this case, the remaining five accused in the case including Tarique Rahman were fined for 10 years and fined Tk 20 million.
Judge Akhtaruzzaman of the special court set up at Bakshibazar in Old Dhaka on Thursday afternoon declared the verdict.
After the announcement of the verdict, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was taken to jail at Nazimuddin Road through strict security.
After the hearing on arguments on January 25, Judge of Dhaka Special Judge-5 Court Judge Aktaruzzaman fixed the day for the verdict.
ACC filed a case against Khaleda Zia on July 3, 2008 on charges of embezzlement of 20 million 71 thousand 671 rupees. On August 5, 2009, chargesheets were filed against Khaleda Zia, Tareq Rahman, Magura's former BNP MP Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal, former chief secretary Kamal Uddin Siddiqui, businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed and the founder of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman's nephew Mominur Rahman. Kamal Uddin Siddiqui and Mominur Rahman are absconding since the beginning of the case.
