Great article. The stringent laws surrounding cannabis and the resulting absurd prison sentences have always been a prime example of what is wrong with the United States. I am glad that the federal government is finally waking up to common sense and paving the way towards a more tolerant society.
While I haven't consumed cannabis in years, I can fully appreciate its various applications and see no reason why it should be illegal, when for decades empirical evidence has shown it is no worse than cigarettes or tobacco.
I firmly believe a move towards legalisation and sensible control (ie. age restrictions, quality control, proper DUI-regulation) would benefit society as a whole and reduce the high number of drug-related incidents we face nowadays, which are largely caused by black market dynamics.
