US withdrawal from Syria proves death of its ME policies - IRGC commander

The United States' withdrawal from Syria proves the defeat and death of its strategies and policies in the region, said Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Brigadier General Hossein Salami in Tehran on Saturday.

Speaking at a seminar entitled '40 Years of Conspiracy, 40 Years of Resistance,' Salami said the US retreat indicates that their strategies "do not work and cannot be successful. And the Iranian nation has found its path among such strategies."

"The defeated Americans have to leave Syria," Iranian military commander of the Revolutionary Guards Ahmad Vahidi said.

He added "in two years, we will see that how the Islamic Republic of Iran will be successful and the US will be defeated regarding its recent sanctions."

On December 19, US President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of roughly 2,000 US troops from Syria, in what is seen an abrupt shift of US Middle East policy.
