I told you, I saw many insects on the strange green flowers of this special tree of acer pseudoplatanus.
Bees. Numerous bees. Mesmerizingly numerous bees.
But not only.
I find the soldier beetles very big this year.
And first, I didn't know they feed on pollen.
These insects seem to me too cumbersome, too heavy and rough for this activity.
Not as sophisticated as bees. Unfit.
But there was no mistake.
These insects were indeed feeding on the flowers, gathering nectar and pollen.
But.
It wasn't only the flowers of the acer pseudoplatanus tree that they are feeding on.
Because they were also predators.
And that was the other great surprise I saw on this tree - soldier beetle, fighting and eating a bee. (Nope, there are not named "soldier beetle", because they fight and eat other animals.)
It was unbelievable.
Because no matter how clumsy this animal looks to me, it still doesn't look like a bloodthirsty predator.
But it turns out that this is true and that even one bee did not have a chance in front of it (in fact, I always thought that bees do not have many enemies other than human pesticides).
It was really sad to see this.
However, here is another strange, not very pleasant visitor to the acer pseudoplatanus tree flowers.
But I will show it to you again later.
