Hurricane Ida oil spills 'mind-boggling,' but likely not as bad as Katrina, Rita

More than 2,300 spills have been reported to the Coast Guard, and about 900 have yet to be investigated. The spills that have been checked range from small fuel leaks off boats to the miles-long sheens from oil platforms.

Interesting article about the number and intensity of the oil spills after Hurricane Ida. The area in question is so vast that the number of damaged oil wells is hard to figure, we probably won't know the true number for months. One thing is for certain, we need to do a better job of removing the old wells that are not operational anymore. No one wants to spend the money to do it, but it has to be part of the deal going forward. Where else can you leave your stuff in nature and that's ok? This is a long article but worth the read if you have the time and are interested.
