When we mention [Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdoms_of_Amalur:_Reckoning) we are talking about a much more arcade RPG than games like Skyrim, and I have to say that once you get into Amalur you won't be able to get out for a long time. What is the history of this game before we get into it? Well, basically there are Fae and Mortal races. Faes can die temporarily, but after a while they come back to life. So they are immortal. But for the most part, they coexist with the mortal races just fine, until a group of faes called the tuatha rise up and take over one of the fae houses, as they are divided into separate types of faes, usually in houses. This war lasts for a couple of decades before the game starts, and the tuatha are winning under the leadership of a man named Gadflow, who seems to be, for all intents and purposes, quite different from the other fae. And as time goes on, the mortal races are slowly losing this battle of attrition, simply because when they die, they're dead and the fae keep coming back. So the mortal races are looking for a way around this, and it seems like they did a lot of research on souls and necromancy, basically trying to bring people back to life in an attempt to turn the tables, which is completely unsuccessful until we get there, because the game starts with our character being moved as a corpse, everybody thinks you're another failed experiment, but then you magically come back to life and become it without destiny. >Esta guerra dura un par de décadas antes de que empiece el juego, y los tuatha van ganando bajo el liderazgo de un hombre llamado Gadflow, que parece ser, a todos los efectos, bastante diferente de los demás faes. Throughout the world we will have everything, villages, dungeons, secrets, quests of all kinds, faction systems, guilds, alchemy, blacksmiths, instructions. There is also stealth, theft, we can go to jail, repair and improve objects, open locks with picklocks, buy houses, reform it, 75 different capabilities to improve as we level up. The combat is very simple and accessible and has very good control. The game itself is a satisfying form of arcade RPG combat, more reminiscent of the old God of War games than its contemporaries like Skyrim or Dragon Age. Timing and skill are almost as important as the skills selected or the weapons and armor equipped. And there's plenty to choose from in this regard thanks to plentiful loot and the ability to change your character's skills in the weavers of doom around the world. That said, while there was a consistent challenge present until the final boss, it all felt pretty basic compared to more modern games with similar combat systems, like 2018's God of War or Sekiro, or even something like Horizon Zero Dawn. >El juego en sí es una forma satisfactoria de arcade de combate RPG, que recuerda más a los antiguos juegos de God of War que a sus contemporáneos como Skyrim o Dragon Age. Inventory management is something you'll be dealing with more than you'd think, largely thanks to a relatively limited load capacity, and the frequency with which you'll pick up mountains of new gear. This mechanic is constantly hampered and you close one menu only to have to open another just to do something as simple as equip a primary and secondary weapon. Dialogue menus, which are basically nothing more than a list of nouns you can choose to have an NPC explain the story on that topic, take up a huge chunk of screen space in what could have easily been 15-20% at most. >La gestión del inventario es algo que tendrás presente más de lo que te imaginas, en gran parte gracias a una capacidad de carga relativamente limitada, y la frecuencia con la que recogerás montañas de equipo nuevo. That said, there is a large world to explore with a familiar yet unique take on classic fantasy. While most of the characters have a fairly traditional fantasy look and the environments definitely show their age in terms of density, each area of the map features some genuinely interesting and unique location designs. There are plenty of captivating locations all over the map of Amalur and there is plenty to do in almost all of them. Amalur's main story doesn't have the ramifications of Mass Effect 2 or The Witcher 3, for example, but what it lacks in flexibility it makes up for in sheer amount of things to do. Even before you get into the two DLC expansions included in Re-Reckoning, there's an impressive amount of side quests, faction stories, and ancillary adventures. It took me over 40 hours to get to the end credits the first time I played it, and the main part of the story was satisfying for the most part. >Dicho esto, hay un gran mundo que explorar con una visión familiar pero única de la fantasía clásica. Without a doubt, this is a linear RPG with not only the necessary content to keep you engaged for dozens and dozens of hours, but it's also a linear RPG with something rare in the genre, incredible gameplay. Amalur wasn't the perfect package, and it didn't do anything exceptionally new in terms of quest types, story, or other conventions of fantasy-themed RPGs, but its gameplay is sublime.
