Motown on Mondays - "Spirit Groove" - Mandre

Greetings Steemians! Today's dose of disco goodness comes to you from Mandre!

Rocking proto-Daft Punk vibes both in image and sound, Mandre is the late 70's project of musician Andre Lewis. After his group Maxayn broke up, Lewis signed with Motown records and put out three albums worth of expansive spaced out disco funk. He would later go on to replace George Duke in Frank Zappa's band.

"Solar Flight (Opus 1)" from his self-titled 1977 album if probably the most well known Mandre track but today I bring you my personal favorite "Spirit Groove" off of the 1979 album "M3000".

While it might not be as spaced out as some of Mandre's tracks, it's sure to invigorate the dance floor. Incidentally, this tune was written Marlo Henderson who in addition to working with Andre Lewis, wrote for countless other artists through the 1970's & 1980's.

This post was inspired by Motown on Mondays which is an international group of over 60 DJ's, remixers, and fans of music from the Motown and associated labels. While their website is rather sparse at the moment, you can find more information and a wealth of amazing remixes on their soundcloud page. Even though their web presence isn't up to date the parties still happen. If you should find yourself in a city that hosts a Motown On Monday event I encourage you to check it out. Though each party has its unique flavor, I promise you will enjoy yourself if you go. The spirit of the groove was certainly present at the monthly parties hosted by Mad Skillz & Lonnie B. in Richmond, Va
