IN THE MAILBOX!! - JVXCHEMIST X NEKVBI TAPES RETROX NOVELA. COMPILATION TAPE. NEK_030

Hi,

just a post to say what an incredible peice of work came in from my friends JV☠ℭHEMIST and NEKUBI TAPES, I AM STOKED.  This " culturally pivotal design experiment " is a unique, visionary project that brings together disciplines from all over the map. Geographically and Inter-disciplinarily. It is a very high quality assemblage of stickers, a full-color 10 page booklet titled "RETROX NOVELA" that seamlessly weaves the progressions of the story with the musical transitions of the compilation--  a musical compilation of lo-fi and experimental hip hop artists tracks produced by nekubi on cassette (complete with shrink wrap, J Card) --and the magic that happens when you put them all together.

JUST IMAGINE... MUSIC-COMIC-BOOK-CASSETTE-TAPES!!  X |  8|

The brilliance of the project released by NEKUBI TAPES( www.nekubi.bandcamp.com ) and JV☠ℭHEMIST(https://www.instagram.com/jvxchemist/) working with several artists, beat makers and  producers is the scale and depth of conceptual composition.

The discipline it takes to coordinate a mix tape around a theme is a craft that has been taken to a while new level here. The original interpretations of discarded characters from old comics given new sound contexts (internationally) adds a multitude of dimensions to the narratives one experiences cognitively compiling the presentation of tracks and graphics. This setup naturally gives creedence to the individual's interpretation of the storyline and provides penetrating insights into the nature of what protagonist is in the modern torrent of fragments of info and life, and death today. This project: a huge development of application of collective creative work.

To name a few parts is to miss the broader scope and great accomplishment of a graphic novel cassette tape ( " RETROX NOVELA " ) make-your-own-adventure international release, but to begin:

(this part is pure interpretation + my own opinion btwz - wingin' it)

The period in time (1950s) the images are set provides a cutting cultural criticism aimed at those representing industrial life as "developed". As we know development spells doom for culture and organisms alike. Progress as a culture aesthetically halted at that period, and that is what gives way to archaic roles and representations we are offered to interpret life with, contemporarily. By utilizing a visual framework that pays reference to 1950s, a valuable contribution made to the background for the story.

Overall what stuck out to me visually were the alterations made to the figures adapted from comic books. The exposed skeletal structure of the teeth and jaws of the figures emphasized the death nature that is present, and motivates the telling of stories about reality with affixed belief. The element of gore motivates a modern interpretation of zombies starved of souls (no eyes) lost and thrown as puppets orchestrated by some force, with a flickering awareness of love as it can be felt.

Musically I was able to follow a biorhythm of how the tape and the comic progressed together, and this was really enjoyable. There were times I found myself very involved with the unfolding of this progression and I loved the way each track complimented the overall project and the artwork involved.

I can't say enough how ridiculously awesome this release is! check it out!

KNABLINZ have a track on the compilation side B, titled : lowco_ridin
