'Newcomer 4' - New Original Music - Updating Yesterday's Rough Idea + Bonus Video of an Awesome New Synth from Errorinstruments

As you may be able to tell from

Track 16, Glitchy Audio, Combined Into 1 Part
the title of today's post, there were two other versions of updates I made to yesterday's rough song idea before this one; Version 3 was almost identical, except I deleted some volume automation by accident and had to export the song again, lol. Starting from the top, the first thing I did was split all the drum hits into their own tracks: hi-hats, snares, and kicks, though I wound up adding another 909 kick, which basically just took over, as the kick from the Steven Slate Drums demo wasn't particularly loud. I dropped the level on the snare, and EQ'd it a bit so it wasn't so intensely 'oompfy' with the heavy low end. This actually helped allow Track 12, which was the Portal effected drums (hi-passed, so it's basically just hats and snares with weird granular delay) to accent certain parts of the beat. It's still relatively quiet, but definitely helps with some of the rolls, and with the sizzly sound of some of the hat hits.

Portal, Used on the 'Lead' in Track 23

Listen to Newcomer 4 here...

The next change was in the clips in Track 16, where I took

Splitting up drums into tracks, plus new kick
the two different parts, and combined them so they play together over the full chord progression; the original version, with the two 'halves' divided up, can be heard over the very beginning of the song (in Track 15). Track 23 was the 'lead' sort of thing from yesterday's idea, which I didn't love. So, I added a Portal effect (the preset 'Nora Destroyer'), which added some cool, twinkly granular stuff. I also added a heavy reverb, and dropped the volume a bit, so it feels less like a lead, and more just like another instrument floating in and out of the mix. The last two new tracks are 24-26. 24 added a little vocal sample, which isn't really audible, and was just sort of an experiment to see if I liked it. Finally, Tracks 25 and 26 are both used on the accents on that last snare beat, when the BPM drops, at the beginning, and during the break.

I've included an unrelated bonus video below, showing off the 'Radio Sputnik UVB-76', an awesome synth from ErrorInstruments that I just got in the mail. I'm going to use it tomorrow, and record five or ten minutes of randomness, and then take that and start to build some cool samples, maybe try and build a tune around it. Apologies for the video being upside down... YouTube shows it as right-side up, yet refuses to publish it that way, lol. Anyway, it's mostly about the sounds, less the visuals, so not a huge deal.

Bonus video of the new Errorinstruments' Radio Sputnik UVB-76 device I just got in the mail (no idea why the video keeps uploading upside, but it's more about the sounds anyway):
