Kool and the Gang - You Don't Have to Change

Kool and the Gang are arguably

The Gang live (Image Source)
one of the most known bands of all times, as their singles like 'Jungle Boogie' and 'Celebration' have been featured in countless movies and TV shows, becoming sort of larger than the band themselves. Most people who know these tunes probably can't even name the Kool and the Gang, yet they somehow know their songs like the back of their hands. The band was originally formed in 1964, but it wasn't until the early/mid '70s that they embraced a funkier sound and began to have much more mainstream success. This continued into the '80s, as they embraced new sounds and styles, incorporating them into the funk they helped pioneer. There is, however, an album from the band's mid '70s period that really stands out to me as unique, their 1974 release Light of Worlds. There are definitely some fun, funky tunes on it, but they also really embraced a more experimental, fusion sort of vibe throughout, which this song is an awesome example of. It has the very obvious jazz elements with the harmonies, and some of the funk in the verses, but also sort of rock and roll structures that make it a really unique tune.
