Elvis Costello - I'm Not Angry
For some reason, despite my love of
related bands and artists, Elvis Costello is someone whose music I didn't really get into until six or seven or years ago. I'm not sure why, but in my head, I thought he was a croner or something, and not a rock and roller through and through, and upon listening to his music, had those preconceptions totally destroyed, becoming a big fan. Costello began playing music in London, England in the early '70s in the 'pub rock' scene, which was one of the precursors of punk rock, and where a lot of those bands first learned about live music. As punk and new-wave, artists like Costello were able to try new things and help to really move rock music to new, cutting edge places. Costello would wind up having a decade spanning career, releasing both solo albums, and music with various bands, including The Attractions, who are probably his most well known backing band. Today's song is from his very first release, 1977's My Aim is True, which is my personal favorite, though I do love much of his music from later years as well. This album is just a SOLID rock and roll record, and shows Costello's love for '50s and early '60s rock music, though incorporated into more unique, 'modern' (for the time) music. I'm not sure if this song is my favorite from the record, but it's a good one, and is a bit more aggressive than some of the other catchier, more pop oriented numbers.
